Which Pretty Little Liar Deserves a Grade ‘A’?

Pretty Little Liars is by far the best teen show at the moment; I could even go as far as saying it is the best of all time! The mysteries and twists never fail to excite, the little liars are individualists with great dramas and there is the odd piece of eye candy!

I’ve decided to rank the four Pretty Little Liar’s (Aria, Hanna, Emily and Spencer) based on their major secret, personality, fashion, love interests, humour and family. Adding up the scores will show what little liar has brought the most to the show so far.

At number four is the quietest member of the group: Emily Fields.

Major Secret: 6/10

Personality: 5/10

Fashion: 4/10

Love Interests: 5/10

Humour: 4/10

Family: 3/10

Total = 27 out of 60

Ratings analysed:

Emily has had a few dilemmas (mainly involving her lovers), but generally she lacks an exciting storyline. I liked how she struggled with her sexuality at the beginning of the show, but she now seems comfortable with it. This means she needs a new exciting storyline but she hasn’t been given one yet! When Emily is on the screen there isn’t much comedy and her personality is quite stale, although she might become feistier as season two progresses. Her fashion is very plain compared to the other girls; she is not a show off. Emily’s family could be interesting if they were actually in the show! From season 1 it’s clear they are very strict and it would be fascinating to see how Emily would rebel against them. Emily isn’t the liveliest of the group, but the show wouldn’t be the same without her!

The most humorous girl of the group, Hanna Marin, gets a bronze.

Major Secret: 3/10

Personality: 7/10

Fashion: 7/10

Love Interests: 8/10

Humour: 7/10

Family: 7/10

Total = 39 out of 60

Ratings analysed:

I really, really do love Hanna. At first I wasn’t too keen; she was nasty Miss Popular who had it all. However, it didn’t take long for her to change her ways and transform into the most loveable liar in the group. Her fashion is gorgeous, there’s no doubt about that! Her family is quite interesting and we’ll be seeing much more of them since her dad’s new family is moving to town. I really do not like Kate and I hope she gets a piece of what she deserves! Out of the entire group she is the funniest. Some of her comments are just brilliant and it’s hard not to laugh! I love Lucas and I so hope that she will end up with him, but she is extremely attached to Caleb (he’s not too bad either).

Iceland Aria Montgomery just misses out on the top spot.

Major Secret: 7/10

Personality: 8/10

Fashion: 9/10

Love Interests: 5/10

Humour: 5/10

Family: 7/10

Total = 41 out of 60

Ratings analysed:

Aria is the little liar I relate most with (this hasn’t influenced my ratings in any way!). She went through an emo face and she is now the mature philosophical dreamer. Her fashion is defiantly the best out of the group. When the series began I thought Aria was going to be the main character, but I’m glad it’s shared equally between the girls. Aria’s big con however is her love interest. I did find the whole Ezra relationship exciting at first, but now it’s dull and dragging on. So much time has been spent on it that it seems like a soap opera never-ending relationship rather than a gripping teen show. I do like her parents’ drama, but I hope Mike will get a major storyline soon!

That’s right, there is only one girl left. The winner of the Pretty Little Liar trophy is Spencer Hastings!

Major Secret: 9/10

Personality: 8/10

Fashion: 6/10

Love Interests: 8/10

Humour: 7/10

Family: 6/10

Total = 44 out of 60

Ratings analysed:

By far, Spencer is the most serious and competitive of the group, but that doesn’t always have to be a bad thing! It is Spencer’s persistent personality that makes her determined to find out who A is and that keeps the mystery going. Her sleuthing skills always pull her into the worst situations. Spencer’s preppy wardrobe isn’t as good as Aria’s but it does fit her personality perfectly, and who can forget her amazing Halloween costume? At the beginning Spencer was my least favourite character because she seemed selfish, but it was her relationship with Toby (my favourite guy in the whole series) that made me warm to her. Out of all the girls, Spencer’s secret was by far the biggest; making out with your sisters various lovers, that is bad! Melissa isn’t the nicest sister in the world, but that is just plain wrong! Spencer is the best Pretty Little Liar as she brings the most to the show.

About Danielle Shields

Danielle Shields is an English and Journalism undergrad at Stirling University, Scotland. Her obsession with everything to do with pop culture means that it is her ambition to become an arts and culture journalist. In an ideal world her days would be spent on trips to Cannes, trips to Hays and trips to Glastonbury. Until then she remains content by nesting at her home in Cineworld, losing herself in the library and being utterly squished at the SECC.
